Duck Energy utilises existing mine shafts to store energy from renewable sources and then provide the energy back to the grid at high demand times in the evening or winter. Issues with Cemical bateries ¶
Common chemical batteries used in laptops, phones, and cars, require many exotic rare earth elements like Lithium to store energy. These rare earth elements require a lot of energy and to extract and process into usable batteries. They also break down over time reducing their capacity and useful life space. Gravity batteries don’t require rare earth materials or exotic chemical mixtures. Gravity batteries use the same principles as those found in grandfather clocks, where a large weight is lowered to release stored energy.
